Two months following the one year warranty expiry for our Kenmore 27″ wall oven, the oven door fell off and shattered. Thankfully, I was not holding my newborn at the time.
My husband and I called the 1-800-number and after countless hours and about four telephone calls, we had them agree to have a service technician confirm that this was a product default and not due to negligent use on our part. The technician confirmed that this was the fault of the product.
He mentioned we were to await a call from customer service for details on next steps. We waited for 6 days until we had to finally call them. When i called them, they mentioned that we were responsible to pay for the fixing the oven and they were not going pay for fixing the wall oven door. The price to fix the door was just about the same price as we paid for the entire oven!!!
Sears customer service has been the worst service i have ever received. I mentioned asked them if they were ok with losing a customer for life over this issue and they said yes, they were ok with it. The end customer service and satisfaction did not seem at all important!! We will never buy anything from Sears again.

It might be frustrating to hear but two months is two months. Your wall oven was/is out of warranty, why would you expect Sears to replace it? I’m assuming you hadn’t experienced any problems with the oven during the first year? Unless its a defect of all these wall ovens and not just a faulty part on your oven. If its the later, then I don’t understand how its Sears responsibility to replace the door. Parts wear out and have to be replaced end of story.
If you don’t know if its a defect in all the ovens do a search online and if its a wide spread problem then you find out…

I was about to go buy a sofa and love seat from sears this evening but I’m thinking that’s probably not a good idea, customer service is one of the most important factors to me. Thanks for sharing

Sears repair isn’t the same as Sears - they contracted it out a few years ago to save money, just like they outsourced the call centers. They really don’t care because they work for lots of different companies, not just Sears, and don’t consider you a “customer”.
For that much time and money, it is worth going to an actual store and speaking to the supervisor in person - this often works. Can’t lose anything trying, right?
Good luck and let us know what happens.

when a warranty is over its over. I know they like they do here would of called you several times offering you an extended warranty. I’ve always had the best luck with Sears appliances and would never give my business to the greedy small town cooks in my town

If the over door fell off that would that possibly it was the hinges. The repair guy may have just told you it was covered to avoid having to debate with you.
Some information about the oven door. The glass in them is only covered for thermal breakage. And this rarely happens. Oven glass has been shattered by water dropplets from the roaster lid. It was the water from the lid that broke the glass not the heat or the oven.
This is where many people who call have a misunderstanding what the warrenty covers. Retail people say everything is usually to make a sale because they are on commission. But then its impossile for them to read every warrentee for every product.
All buyers should read the warrentee before big purchases as well research it on the internent. The day of putting trust into big companies is long gone. Cusomers have to protect yourself by making sure you understand the rules of the contract.
