Lousy Service at Trade Secrets- Square One - Eyebrow Waxing Area‏

By Long Wait Customer

I went to Trade Secrets in Square One, Mississauga last April 5, 2010 this Indian lady, one of the workers who is doing the brows, told me half an hour wait, and I waited for over an hour, I saw people come and go as told by this Indian worker, they were on her imaginary list, (no actual list, she just remember customers by their faces and who knows who came first and what not). A white lady worker came and she just passed me on to this worker named Rita, who arrived very late for her shift, and have the nerve to tell her customers what she wants to do, not what the customers want to be done. After one lady, I sat there, and requested her to do an arch brows for me, she said she can’t do it, all she can do is just to clean it for me, because the worker’s friend came out of nowhere, and she wanted to serve her friend better than a customer who was there an hour before, I figured, what kind of service is that? Aside from the fact that this worker smelled cigarette, she did
her job very shabby and unprofessional, she did the brows hurriedly, just two minutes, basically she missed some spots and left my right brows with small scrape coz of the thread. That was really sloppy. While I asked for the number of the manager, to express my complaint, the Indian and white worker stood there and the one who served me had the nerve to complain why I need to ask for an arch eye brows. For all I know that is part of the service why she needs to be relieved of such request. Unfortunately, the cashier lady covered for her, and said she will talk to her, in my mind, what a cashier can do to her, basically nothing. That is one lousy place to go, find another place if you want to have your eye brows done coz surely they will let you wait and serve people they know first before you. Aside from expensive items that they are selling this people are poor in customer service, we can always find best valued items in the neighbouring malls and stores complimente
d with excellent service. That was one worthless wait, I am very unhappy with the service. Talk about service rating, my rating for Trade Secrets in Square One branch is a lousy rating one.

I personally don’t like you pointing out the colors/cultures of the workers.

White? Indian? Are you new to Canada?

It sounds like your trying to point out something else, hmm?

I agree with Radeyah, this Indian woman, that white woman, that woman smelling like cigarettes. I read a lot of snobbishness in your complaint

    PLEASE LIKE YOU DISGUST ME.

How pathetic are you to wait over an hour for an EYEBROW ADJUSTMENT?? Maybe you’re ugly on the inside and need to pretend you’re beautiful on the outside.

    you make me sick.

    HELLO,

I don’t think the writer of this post is being racist, and I am not white.
I think she is really frustrated by the lousy service she received. I think she is just mentioning races to describe these ladies. Maybe a fellow Smart Canucker was there the same day as her, and could sympathesize/agree with her. There are many people who read this site, and I believe it is best to rant about lousy service so others have a heads up on the situation.

I dont think she intended to be racist either I think she was frustrated with the bad service and needed to rant/vent. Even if you think she is racist that is no reason to attack her in such a public way. I’m sure we have all said things that didnt sound the way we ment the to. especially when upset.

Still, you could have said it differently! It’s rude and stupid to expect something like this from grown adults.

At least set a good role model for your children!

i have often gotten my eyebrows done at trade secrets in square one. i have also had the same experiences as this customer. i think if you go to trade secrets, you should go earlier in the day because in the evenings, there is such a long waiting period.

jeff k, radeyah, dave, no name woww i sense so much hatred in your comments. Just because she mentioned about the race / color it doesnt mean she’s racist. She was just trying to explain her experience in details. So whoever goes to that place know who the writer were talking about. Geez…

    @Linda Tay

I agree with you, no one said the word racist. Mightyowner you can’t just put words in ppls mouths.

Yes, she could have described the workers in a better way. But she chose not to and this why she is being called bad things by others.

How the hell does she know she was Indian ( did she ask her ) ??

All brown people are not Indian..she could have been Pakistani , Sri Lankan , Bangladeshi or from some other country .

Anyways she seems to have got a lousy service…there are always 2 sides to the same story so you never know .

Linda Tay, it is rather OBVIOUS what the very first comment was implying..that the poster was racist. I think even my daughter could realize that, and she’s only a month old.

“I personally don’t like you pointing out the colors/cultures of the workers.

This is trying to say she sounds racist.

Well, if I may return to the original point of the post which was to comment on the level of service received, I have been a customer of the Square One Trade Secrets for a few years now and have always received meticulous service from the woman who does my brows. She is warm and lovely and so talented at what she does. I try to avoid busy times as there really is an odd way of sequencing customers if you are unfamiliar with their routine. No one “butts in”, though. They generally give you a time estimate and many people choose to leave and come back at the appointed time. Each of the ladies will let you know how many people are ahead of you if you ask. The price is great and there are many regular customers. I suppose the poster might consider finding another place to go that suits her needs better.

I dont see anything wrong with OP’s post.
I have been in the beauty industry for over 5 years (my mom over 28 years) and know what kind of services to expect.
I smoke myself and i know how the smell of cigarettes follows me around for at least 1 hr after i have smoked, so if this rep smoked - dont serve your customers, specially doing the eyebrows as your hands and mouth are very close to customers’s face! period!
As for asking manager’s name: call head office and complaint! that’s it!

@Digi Stop hating on the 1st post, read the other ones. Atleast Radeyah didn’t call her a b*itch or call her UGLY!

It doesn’t sound racists at all, maybe that’s what your thinking! lol

Digi, I don’t care if it implies she’s racist or not. The fact of the matter is she IS racist. There, I said it. Why are we all sugar coating the fact that she’s not? Yes, she did receive crappy service according to her, I’m not disputing that. Think before you write woman. Frankly, we don’t care if the worker was black, asian, Indian or Jewish..

Trade secrets everywhere is HORRIBLE. Focus on the point of the message people, those of you claiming the writer is racist needs your head examined. You’ve missed the entire point of the message, and focused on two words “indian woman”. Correct me if I’m wrong but that sounds an awful lot like someone nit-picking and looking for problems where they don’t exist. I’m sick an tired of the extreme’s of political correctness…..if you really want to stop racism in it’s tracks then start practicing some tolerance yourselves….and stop bashing someone for a mere description of a situation. The cops use physical descriptions (black, white, tall, short, etc) to describe criminals, etc…so why can’t someone use a physical description to describe a worker in store when he/she doesn’t know the persons name.

Bottom line, stay away from Trade Secrets, I’ve had horrible experiences with several of their stores, their problems exist at the top…..I”ve shown up for appts and been told to come back an hour later, they’ve refused to honor completely legitimate coupons, horrible stylists, etc.

I don’t think the poster was trying to be racist. If I don’t know what someone’s name is, and I’m trying to describe that person to a friend, I will automatically mention the person’s race: the white girl, the black man, that Asian girl, etc. Race is easy to spot and helps narrow things down. I personally think that the most racist people are those who see racism even when it’s not there.

I am currently in a customer service issue with Trade Secrets, Richmond Hill. a hair dryer I purchased with a two-year warranty is the issue. The motor makes a screeching noise and fire sparks are coming out of the unit.
I have now spoken to three people in 7 days and have had to visit the location twice now. My last visit today, Feb 11, 2012 was a disaster. The “manager” there had to contact her Area Manager even though other staff assesed the unit, and saw smoke emit from the unit with an electrical wire smell.
This situation is poor customer service. I would not be faced with this if the unit was purchased at the Bay or Sears or even Walmart! Now I have to come back to see the Area Manager so he can assess the unit.
These small franchises will do ANYTHING to not honour the warranty, even so far as dragging out the situation, possibly to have the customer be so frustrated to abandon the painful experience of having to go back again!
I plan to send a copy of this to Trade Secrets Customer Service and contact the Area Manager on Monday.

I agree with the writer, poor service from this store. I’m trying to return a product for a gift card (they don’t do actual refunds). I’ve been back to the store at Square one 3 times already but no one can help me. I need to see the manager whom only works after 5 apparently. Despite it stating on their website that you can return products to different stores the Erin Mills location didn’t want to help me either. If I ever get the gift card ($215) one of you whom enjoys Trade secrets is welcome to it at a discount of course, I’d gladly meet to verify the balance etc. I don’t want to shop their again!

Mentioning the race of the people involved does imply that their race has something to do with the quality of service you were expecting…which is racist because it implies that you can understand something about a person based soley on their race.
