Sears is a sinking ship and after todays 2nd qtr results it is sinking deeper. Waiting till Target comes and there will be lots of jobs for the Sears employee that will be out of a job when they close the doors. It is only a matter of time till it happens and there is nothing they can do about it as the hole is too deep.

I worked for Sears until a long-time, favored employee screamed at me in front of a lineup of customers. I was still quite new, and was having trouble doing a refund for a customer who bought something on a discount. I asked her for help, and she began yelling at me...embarrassing me horribly.
One of the customers in the lineup was so disgusted that he went to a floor manager and complained. Shortly after that, I was let go for unknown reasons.
I was treated very badly at Sears. I worked hard, but was always treated like crap by the manager and some of the employees. I felt very bullied by some of them, even though I was kind and polite to everyone there.
I know they fired me because of that incident. This woman humiliated me in front of a bunch of customers to the point where I walked away in tears.
I felt used and abused by the Sears staff and don't work in retail anymore. I have found better employment in a much better field of work.
Retail sucks, but Sears was one of the worst experiences I had working retail.

You actually make it appear really easy along with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually something that I think I might by no means understand. It seems too complex and extremely vast for me. I am having a look forward to your next post, I will attempt to get the hold of it!

I take a lot of abuse from customers at Sears. There is too many to list. Stand constantly, running around everywhere.

I don't blame customers entirely because SEARS needs to really get their act straight. IF THEY ADVERTISE SOMETHING OR PROMISE SOMETHING to customers, please MAKE SURE OF ALL LOOPHOLES!! FIND THEM and FIND A SOLUTION. MAKE RULES UP AND STICK TO THEM! make us look like idiots!

SOME PROBLEMS I HAVE:

- 10 days EXCHANGE only on Clearance??
POINTLESS !! If Sears wants to get rid of their clearance merchandise, this is defeating the purpose since customers can exchange with a regular item and then refund it!! DUH!

- TRAIN NEW EMPLOYEES! Don't make them feel undervalued!!
-OLD EMPLOYEES: Treat them better if you can't give them raise! GOSH!!

-RETURNS: Why do we even bother to take back something without a tag!! OR PILLOWS at all! GROSS!

-PRICE SCANNER: Why can't we have one accessible to customers?
- WASHROOMS: Why do they always stink!?!?

- WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER?
nothing will change.

PLEASE IMPROVE. PLEASE.

Success depends largely on communication, organization, training, respect and recognition for hard work.

I am currently an emplayee at sears in calgary alberta and i do belive that every sears is differnt becouse if the differnt employees and managers. but at my sears its actualy a living nightmare.. right now i am dealing with legal issues.. involving employee harassment.
right now 2 of my fellow assosiates are getting harrased mentaly and verbaly by one other employye and it has been told to the head of managment, to our manager and to human resourses.. so far it is being treated like a joke my boss does not take it as seariously as it should be and i personaly have been a victom of harrasment by my boss. there is no training at all.. and if u try to help you get in trouble for visiting. sears company has a lot of issues that need to be managed and i have a tone of absulutly great ideas like assosiates hired to strikly deal with change rooms to help loss (stealing) and cleansliniss and also a return counter so cashers will stop being harrased by unplessent customes.. but no i never get heard and soon this wil be publisised in the media.. and i will try my best or loss my job trying

If you google "sears sucks", you will get dozens of websites featuring countless horror stories of customer disservice, lousy product quality, questionable business ethics, boorish employee behavior, and promises to never ever ever buy from sears again ever EVER! Now google "sears is great" or "I like sears" or anything positive like that and you get NOTHING!

I worked with Sears (Calgary) for 2 months. Funny before joining I checked this website and now here I am to "post".

If you are going to join Sears my advice is "Be Careful" do not expect more. Do not expect fairness and self respect. Whatever situation is forcing you to work, just stick to the job if you can. Some days you might go home in tears. But that is how Sears is.

As for me, I just said "I quit" in a snap. Before even the Store manager can make his vicious attacks and humiliation. He was shocked because he did not think I will. (I used to be a Temp, construction so job is not a problem and these people are taking advantage of the fear)

I drafted so many letters for the Company to let them know about the situation in which I left. But I dont think it will be of any help. The management is "Hand in Hand"

So I just thought I will post this one here. Believe me I have 15 years work experience and know the difference between a "rant" and a genuine concern.

-----------
A little about my performance, I was a shop owner (they cant handle a shop owner) In the first month I turned around the sale from negative to positive. Encouraged good associates, Rapid Credits went from zero to store second.

They are highly hypocritical, they call me Shop "owner" bloody I have to s**t only where toronto says, in the name of "reflow" even they removed the signs (like Boys 4-6X...) and when told that one customer complained about lack of signs the regional head ISM told that "the customer is a bag"
to me those words are a sin and blasphemy in customer service. The customer may be wrong but never say the customer is a "fool" or "stupid"

---------------

V****r (Store Manager) does not care, maybe you care M***e (Regional Head). Eventhough I just had a glimpse of you I developed some respect for you but in the end your people are also part of you. You cannot disown their actions lest justify.

The store leadership can only work with mediocre people who put up a show for Salary and Survival and who can nod their heads and toe the egocentric, mean and brash leadership. Apart from the personal lack of values and character the store leadership also lives in poverty and cannot afford or care for Success, Pride, Respect, Dignity, Fairness, Sincerity, Human Values, Environment and Safety. But Double Standards, Hypocrisy, “covering your ass” (in his own words), capitalizing on weaker section are the values he practices.

When I ask respect for me, the ISM says “respect should be earned S**a (My name)”, shouldn’t human beings“deserve” respect? Did the ISM earn her respect with me?

And what happens when I do the same (what was did to me), when my communication shows that you have not earned the respect, when you make a stupid and overlooked reflow, don’t know even what type of racks are going in the floor, abdicate the task to a new comer and force him to do and redo and redo on his own? And when I work my ass off what do I get? I am asked to drop work go home and come back after two days for a discussion by the third class Store manager? What about all the hours of work that I had put in on my own for this poorly planned reflow? You don’t want to talk now? You stand at the door and ask me to get out of the store and come back after two hours? Or “intimidate” me to have a heated discussion right now?

Every action has a reaction, and if mine was a reaction it was due to some of your action (s) you should stop to think what it is and correct the situation instead show disrespect, rudeness and sadistically penalize with an intention to demean and belittle people to show your power. You think you have but you have no power over others.

I was asked about the status of the work with much disrespect, humiliation, the store manager and ISM asking me without even knowing what happened, what is happening or what is being doing then. It hurt a lot when I was asked to drop work and go home without even discussing the concerns or the issues. It was done with intention by the store manager.

It seems that the store leadership believes in a principle of the “unilateral”, everything goes only in one direction, you are right and others are wrong. I never thought Canada would do business so mediocre, unfair and worse than some third world countries. Sears gave me a very bad taste of Canadian work culture, values and ethics.

well after reading all the negative stuff here I have to respond in saying that Sears for me has been great over the years...35 to be exact...yes I am a lifer! Everyone at my store in B.C. respects me and I have some amazing friendships from working there. Management does focus on TARGETS and yes I hate the cold calling too, but lets show a little respect! Business is tough and pleasing the customer at times can be a challenge, but thats my job. You must put the interest of others first to be a success. Yes its not easy to take orders when you dont think they make sense but use your own ideas to work into the plan! My only complaint ... 35 years of standing 7.5 hours a day without being aloud to sit down (even when I was 9 months pregnant and also following surgeries) is a little like slavery! Also Toronto manages our air conditioning and we are in B.C.! WHAT is that about...it is hot here and we go in to sweat it out every day. Toronto says we dont get air until June 10!!! HELP! So if you are not happy...find work somewhere else. Someplace where you feel appreciated. Good Luck to all!

They have this one guy in Montreal Sears as floor manager, let's call him Bee Had, omg, he insults clients with his cultural attitude; and you should hear how he talks to his staff, he cuts them down as if they are fresh of a boat. He treats them with disdain. Psst! the upper management knows of his ways and they pet him as if they are walking on eggshells. Gross!!! Customers run away.
